This year the event will take place at Blackbird Restaurant, known for its contemporary
American cuisine, and voted one of the five best restaurants in Chicago.
Blackbird's chef,
Paul Kahan, received the 2004 James Beard Award for best Midwest chef.
The evening will include a reception, raffle drawings, remarks, and Best Friend
Award presentation.

KID is honored to recognize attorney and expert on consumer product and home
safety issues, Mary Ellen Fise, and the Assistant General Counsel at the
Consumer Federation of America, Rachel Weintraub, as our 2004 Best Friends.
Together, these women demonstrate a resolute commitment to children through
their work.
Mary Ellen Fise served as the General Counsel and Product Safety
Director for the Consumer Federation of
America. She is the co-author of a consumer's guide to buying safe
children's products and creator of Safechild.net, one of the most comprehensive
children's safety sites on the web. She currently works as an attorney and
consultant on consumer product and home safety issues.
Rachel Weintraub is the Assistant General Counsel at the
Consumer Federation of America (CFA) where she represents the CFA on
the behalf of consumers before the Consumer Product Safety Commission and
Congress. Her primary focus is advocacy on product safety issues.

Buying an ad in the The Best Friend Award Program
is a great way to support Kids In Danger, as well as promote your business,
congratulate the Best Friend Award recipients, or just show your appreciation
for KID's lifesaving work.
With the purchase of an ad, your business will be included in the directory in
the back of the program, making the program a useful resource for KID
supporters.
All the proceeds of the ad book benefit KID's work to promote the development
of safer children's products, advocate for children and educate the public,
especially parents and caregivers, about dangerous children's products.
