The Chicago City Council’s Committee on Health and Environmental Protection held a hearing on June 28, 2011 to consider a resolution introduced by Alderman Balcer regarding the steps the City of Chicago can take to prevent infant deaths due to suffocation from bumper pads. KID, along with representatives from SIDS of Illinois testified in favor of the resolution. KID told the stories of Aiden and Preston, who both suffocated against bumper pads.

The committee voted to move forward with introducing an ordinance on crib bumper pads. KID looks forward to working with Alderman Balcer on addressing safety issues and parent education surrounding this unnecessary and dangerous product.
