Great news – Last week, the U.S. House passed the Stop Tip-overs of Unstable, Risky Dressers on Youth Act, or STURDY Act which directs the CPSC to create a mandatory standard to prevent tip-overs. This is a major victory for KID and families – this is the furthest the STURDY Act has gotten in Congress.

Crystal Ellis of Parents Against Tip-overs said in her testimony before the U.S. House Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Commerce on June 13, 2019, “I believe a mandatory standard that takes into account real world use by a child with dynamic testing would have saved my son and literally tens of thousands of children every year from injuries and death.”

Our work isn’t done yet. Now, the bill heads to the Senate. STURDY faced an uphill battle in the House and an even bigger challenge in the Senate. Your senators can make the difference in passing STURDY. Make a phone call to your Senators and ask them to co-sponsor the STURDY Act.
