The House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade is holding a ‘mark up’ session on a draft amendment on Thursday in their latest attempt to unravel the safety net provided by the landmark consumer protection bill (CPSIA) passed in 2008. They are rolling back protections including those requiring products to be tested for safety before they are sold, eliminating lead in children’s products and providing safety information to consumers through a public database — all are under attack.
Please call members of the sub-committee and urge them not to retreat on safety! Targeted solutions to implementation problems can be found, but this effort is simply an attempt to make it easier to continue to sell unsafe products. We’ll keep you posted with more information as it becomes available.
