This week is National Consumer Protection Week (#NCPW), a campaign aimed at encouraging consumers to take advantage of their rights and make informed decisions. At KID, we believe that consumers have an important voice to share about child product safety, and we want to make sure you know what you can do to make your voice heard. We have worked since our founding to convince policymakers to address safety issues and improve recall effectiveness. KID’s advocacy helped encourage the passage of Danny Keysar Child Product safety Notification Act which requires mandatory testing and standards for infant and toddler durable products and provides for a product registration system so that families can be notified about recalls. We continue to work to strengthen standards and better protect children and families from dangerous products.
As consumers, we have rights, and one right should be that the products we buy are safe. Consumer voices are essential to the work we do and to keeping children safe. Take a look at our Family Voices pages – you’ll see parent advocates who have shared some of the hardest times in their lives, all to keep other children safe.
The more awareness there is about recalls, more injuries can be prevented. Help us spread the word:
- Stay up to date on recalls, and share information with family and friends
- Share KID materials with parents, grandparents, and caregivers in your life
- Report unsafe products to SaferProducts.gov
You can also help us in our advocacy work by reaching out policymakers to encourage them to support improved safety regulations. We can’t do our work without you!
