“We live in a world designed by adults, for adults, but kids suffer,” stated Dr. Gary Smith of Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. This was one of my favorite quotes of the weekend, and something I will certainly share with others during KID’s education and outreach efforts going forward.
Dr. Smith made this comment while introducing KID Executive Director Nancy Cowles and KID Board member, American Academy of Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Rush University Medical Center Dr. Kyran Quinlan who presented on emerging issues in child injury on the second day of this two day conference in Madison, WI. The conference was hosted by MIPA (Midwest Injury Prevention Alliance); an organization that brings injury prevention professionals across the Midwest together to encourage the development and collaboration.
I serve as the chair for the childhood injury committee and helped plan this year’s Summit, and Nancy serves on the communications and data committees. Membership is free and open to anyone working on injury prevention, so if you would like to engage more with other injury professionals across the Midwest, I highly encourage you to join.
