Sunday, December 31 would have been Danny Keysar’s 27th birthday. At just 16 months old, Danny tragically lost his life when a poorly designed portable crib collapsed on his neck in his childcare home.

In the face of unimaginable grief, his parents Linda and Boaz discovered that Danny was not the first, but the fifth victim of this crib. Recognizing the flaws in the product safety system, they founded KID, now commemorating our 25th year as Danny’s legacy endures. Linda and Boaz’s mission extended beyond educating families about recalled and hazardous children’s products; they aimed to change the entire children’s product landscape by advocating for stringent standards preventing manufacturers from releasing unsafe products into the market. Over the past 25 years, KID has made significant strides in transforming how children’s products are regulated in the U.S., yet there is more work ahead.

Danny’s legacy lives on through KID, and one of our proudest accomplishments is the passage of Danny’s Law in 2008, a crucial component of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. This law mandates strong standards and independent testing for most children’s products. Now, we move forward to protecting children from emerging hazards such as removing water beads and unsafe sleep products from the market. We’re encouraging safer design through our KID Safety Toolkit, a free course for anyone looking to design hazards out of their product. We also empower caregivers through our virtual and in-person Safe From the Start workshops with our critical safety information. Earlier this year, we launched the KID Safety Forward Program to provide life-saving information to families in the most vulnerable communities – those who need it the most.

As we reflect on Danny’s birthday and commemorate KID’s 25th year, his parents will generously match your donation to KID in Danny’s honor up to $10,000. Will you contribute a gift in honor of Danny’s birthday and KID’s mission to fight for product safety? With your support, KID will continue to prevent tragic injuries and deaths so that the children in all our lives are safe. Make a donation here and your gift will have double the impact. Consider adding $25 to your usual donation in honor of KID’s 25th anniversary.

Your contribution allows KID to persist in our vital work, protecting children and advancing product safety. We wish you and your family a safe and joyful New Year.
