The basics: Download KID’s grandparent brochure to learn how to protect your grandchildren from unsafe children’s products.
Sign up for KID’s monthly safety alerts. You can also sign up for the grandparent listserv for periodic emails with news updates and safety information for grandparents. Be sure to check the box labeled “Grandparent”.
Register your children’s products: Fill out & return the registration cards that now come with most durable infant and toddler products – this is often the only way a manufacturer will contact you in the event of a recall. Learn more.
Thinking of pulling down that old crib from the attic? Spot a great deal at the rummage sale? KID urges you to exercise caution in using second-hand children’s products, as these items may not conform to current safety standards, are more susceptible to hardware failure and may have been recalled. Of course, even brand new items can be recalled. To be safe: Make sure the item has all parts and instructions, and fits together snugly with no loose parts, and check for recalls.
Did you know? CPSC has adopted the world’s strongest crib standards – a move that will ensure that new cribs coming onto the market will provide safe haven for babies and their families. Learn more.
Product issues? You can learn more about specific hazards of children’s products on our Product Hazard pages. Submit or view reports of problems, incidents & injuries associated with children’s products at the new public database, www.SaferProducts.gov.
