KID Applauds President Biden’s Nominations for Chair and Commissioner of U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
Statement of KID Executive Director Nancy Cowles
Kids In Danger (KID) applauds the nominations today by President Biden of Alex Hoehn-Saric as Chairman and Mary Boyle as Commissioner of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (“Commission” or “CPSC”). Both have broad knowledge of the Commission and consumer product safety. We urge the U.S. Senate to quickly take up these nominations and confirm these individuals to serve at the Commission.
CPSC has been operating with Acting Chairmen since 2017 and currently has a two-two split without a clear majority. This has hampered the agency’s ability to adequately fulfil its mission. Our children deserve active leadership and strong efforts to improve product safety and we look forward to working with the new nominees when confirmed.
KID is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting children by fighting for product safety. KID’s mission is to save lives by enhancing transparency and accountability through safer product development, better education and stronger advocacy for children.
