KID is very excited to welcome a big team of UChicago work-study students to the office this fall. We have some returners and some new faces! Get to know the team:
Celia Cullom: Celia is a first-year graduate student at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. She graduated from Kenyon College with a degree in sociology in 2015 and then worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Chicago Rehab Network. Celia brings communication and grant writing skills to KID where she is looking forward to contributing to development, research, and outreach efforts.
Rachel Constanzo: Rachel is a first year graduate student at the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. She recently started working at KID as a work study intern. Rachel has worked in numerous positions involving children, ranging from tutoring to teaching, before coming to work at KID. Before moving to Chicago, she received a BA in International Relations from American University in Washington D.C. and taught English in a rural Chilean community. Rachel is excited to join KID and begin promoting the child safety. She hopes to gain valuable program development, advocacy and research skills while working at KID.
Paola Del Toro: I’m Paola Del Toro, a first year at the University of Chicago hoping to major in Public Policy and minor in Computer Science. I’m excited to work with KID this year as a work-study intern and to get to know the different components of running a successful nonprofit, from research to grant writing to outreach workshops and more.
Madison Lo: Madison is a third year at the University of Chicago studying Political Science and East Asian Languages and Civilizations. She has worked with various non-profits as an advocate for immigrant communities, underserved children, and female refugees. She began learning about children’s product safety when she joined KID in early 2016, and is excited to be back this year! For Madison, the best part about KID is being able to work with a team full of brilliant and passionate people to create meaningful change.
Heather Jones: Heather is entering into her last year of graduate school at the University of Chicago’s School of Social Service Administration. As a future clinician, Heather plans to provide counseling services to children and families. So, she is thrilled to start working with KID as it will allow her to educate parents and grandparents about hazardous children’s products.
Jessica Attas: Jessica is a second-year masters student at the University of Social Service Administration. She graduated from Indiana University with a degree in psychology and
human development and family studies. She joined the KID team last year and thoroughly enjoyed assisting the KID team with research about product safety, She hopes to continue learning about writing quality press releases, developing social media campaigns and how small non-profits can make a positive impact on children and their families.
Maya Baumann: Maya is in her third year at the University of Chicago and is majoring in German and Music. This summer, she spent most of her time working on the furniture report. Of the press conference for the furniture report, she says, “It was great to see so many reporters interested in covering the story and know that through them our message was able to reach a much larger audience.”
