My name is Cameron Robbins and I joined Kids in Danger as the Associate Director of Development this month. I am a Chicago native and have worked in the fundraising field since 2004. I worked on the corporate giving side of philanthropy at Patagonia- the outdoor clothing company, and then moved onto fundraising working with Parkways Foundation and Concordia Place. I have two children ages 3 and 7 and feel passionate about child product safety since as an educated mother, I too found it difficult to navigate the deluge of product information and often didn’t know which sources to trust.
Kids In Danger is growing not only in staff size but also in our resolve to tackle systematic change within the current child product safety system.
- We educate the public about where to find trustworthy information about child products.
- We work to make that information easier to retrieve by the public through our mobile site and expanded outreach programs.
- We have a program that teaches college engineering students, the next generation of product designers, what issues to keep in mind while creating toys and equipment for kids.
- KID advocates for children through constant communication with key players on the federal, state and local level to improve not only child product standards but the systems that notify the public about product flaws; information that can prevent child injuries or deaths.
While not many parents think about child product safety until something happens to their child- this is an issue that affects all children and all families across all walks of life. We are the organization that works toward systematic change to protect children….your children.
I attended my first KID Board of Directors meeting and have to say that this organization has been blessed with talented leaders who freely offer their feedback and ideas while championing our mission to improve child product safety. The Board is one piece of our base of support. KID supporters raise money running marathons, giving through their workplace giving campaign or supporting KID with monthly gifts online and more. I look forward to hearing about your experiences with child products, acting as a resource for the public, but mostly I look forward to helping KID find the resources to accomplish even more of its impactful and necessary work.
